When designing and using these types of surveys there are several points to keep in mind:

  1. Treat surveys as a part of customer experience.

  2. Ask the same question only once.
    Avoid asking a question that the customer has directly or indirectly answered. For example, asking the type of product they bought right after the purchase may only angry the customer – you already should have this information.
  3. Keep it short and to the point.
    If possible avoid multiple-page surveys. Always strive to put no more than 5 questions on a single page.
  4. Use open-ended questions.
    The goal of your customer survey is to establish a communication feedback channel, not just to have the customer answer your questions. Let him or her know you care by allowing direct unmediated feedback.
